Select comparators for reports

By default the reports compare the data for your custom areas against WA and Australia. However, the report comparators can be anything you like. Only Group Admins are able to change report comparators, so email yours or admin@communityinsightaustralia.org if you’re not sure who your admin is.

You may choose 2 different areas to compare your custom area against in a report. You can choose from Australia as a whole, a state, an SA3 or any of your other custom areas.

Comparator 2 is the main comparator – the one that appears on the overview page and as a comparison for the key facts. Choosing a state is useful to set context, so that you can see if your custom area is high or low overall. Choosing another custom area is useful if you are simply examining the differences between two areas. In the images below from the Fremantle report, Western Australia has been set as Comparator 2.

Comparator 1 is the minor comparator – it will only appear in some charts so it’s more for setting context than comparison. In the chart below, Australia has been set as Comparator 1.

Step 1: To select the comparators for your reports, click SettingsMange group settings.

Step 2: Click on the green Select Comparator button for the comparator you want to change.

Step 3: A dropdown menu will appear. Start typing the name of a state, SA3 or custom area, or scroll down using the scroll bar on the right to find the one you want. If you can’t find the area you’d like, you may need to create it as a custom area first.

Step 4: Don’t forget to scroll down and Save Group Preferences for your changes to take effect.

Please note: Changing your comparators will only affect future reports you generate and not previously generated reports. If you have changed it to something that is only relevant for one report, don’t forget to change it back once the report has been generated!
