My Areas> Add Custom Area
Name your custom area and provide a description. Unfortunately, if you try to edit the name and details for an area that has been created from a standard area, you will be asked to choose the area again from the list. We aim to amend this soon, but for the time being we recommend you take care with your names and descriptions to reduce the need for editing, and record the steps taken to define the standard area in case you need to do it again.
The description is not required but it is a useful way to explain to others within your organisation how and why the area was created. It’s also useful to include a definition of how the area was created, if it’s possible there could be some confusion. e.g. drawn on a map or defined by SA2. The name of the area could be both the name of the suburb and the name of the SA2 or even SA3, so you want to provide as much clarity for yourself and other users at this point.
You are given two different methods for creating your custom area
- Draw on a map. Use this method if the area you would like to define is not a standard area. Use the zoom tool to pinpoint exactly how you would like that area to be defined. For a step by step guide on how to use this feature click here
- Based on standard area. Use this feature to create standard areas from suburbs, postcodes, LGAs, states, or SA1s, SA2s and SA3s. You can select more than one of these at a time if they appear in the same list. For a step by step guide on how to use this feature click here
